BASIK Bike Ride raises over £1000!

Posted by Chris Normington

On Easter Saturday seven friends raised more than £1,000 for BASIK by cycling the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and they were dressed to make the Easter bunny proud. They completed the 140-mile route in under a day and brought a little Easter spirit to people along the way.

BASIK fundraiser Chris Normington drew the short straw and got the yellow jersey, which was a duck costume. The rest of the lads went as lambs and gave a few unsuspecting walkers a laugh as they cycled past them on the towpath. There were a few minor setbacks along the way, as a couple of punctures slowed progress but it all added to the challenge. This event has helped push the BASIK total over the £10 000 mark and BASIK would like to thank everyone who took part and helped on the day.

What the New Year will bring…

Posted by Chris Normington

This year should see the completion of Kilimani Primary School. Last year we raised nearly £2000 more than in 2008, which is a great sign. More people have sponsored a child, a scheme which will continue in support of the children at Kilimani even after its completion. The school will continue to have the support of BASIK for vital classroom resources. Also new for 2009 will be Justgiving. This will enable you to create your own fundraising page and people can sponsor you to raise money for BASIK. Keep an eye out for the first BASIK bike ride which will be taking place on Easter Saturday, where 7 volunteers will be cycling the Leeds - Liverpool canal for BASIK. Also donations can be made online either directly through justgiving.com or through the link on the BASIK website. Another major venture for the new year are Christmas Cards which will be designed by school children in Kenya and West Yorkshire. These will be available from the BASIK shop and all other good retailers. We may be making an appearance at Ilkley Carnival and the first annual BASIK awards is also in the pipeline. BASIK would like to wish you all the best for the new year and thanks you for your support! image
