Pirates from Kenya’s neighbour Somalia have collected millions in ransoms over recent years after hijacking ships passing though the Suez Canal, these payments have only sparked their ambition and on Saturday the Sirius Star was seized 450 nautical miles (830km) off the Kenyan coast. The vessel is carrying a cargo of 2m barrels worth more than $100m. the situation in Somalia is growing ever worse and this has implications for Kenya…

BASIK has found new support abroad as the heat of the African day is being felt in the snowy forests of Finland! Today we have officially received our most distant donation, which made the 1823km from Stahlbergintie, Helsinki, in return for a BASIK wristband. A commendable act of charity from Malin Salokivi, a heartfelt thanks to all our supporters who have donated online or at our events by purchasing one of our handmade wristbands!

Its nearly time for exams at Kilimani. The students are busy preparing for the exams but unfortunately they were without their head teacher last week. Julius Nzai told us today the sad news that his mother has passed away but he is now back at the school and carrying on his work at the school. The walls of all the classrooms have now been plastered and the money we have recently sent went towards plastering the school. Also the children will have new desks and tables to sit their exams on.
Julius sends his best wishes and thanks you all for your support!

BASIK received some sad news today. Patrick Lewa’s father has passed away. His father was taken to hospital suffering chest pains last month and now leaves behind Patrick and his two younger sisters. Patrick is part of our charity as he designs and makes all the wristbands sold by BASIK. We will do what we can to support him at this difficult time…
We recently asked Patrick to make us some more wristbands and lost touch with Patrick for two weeks. This is simply because he could not afford to text us back and has naturally had other things on his mind.
Times are hard in Kenya…
