What Are the BASIK Projects?

Although primary education is free in Kenya, many children in remote areas are unable to afford the transport, uniform and back pack that are all essential to getting an education.  Many children, particularly orphans (whose numbers are increasing due to HIV), will not receive any education unless the education is accessible.  Even where there are state schools, the vast majority do not have adequate facilities either in terms of teaching resources or sanitary provision.  Kenya is considered one of the most stable countries in Africa but it is a vast country with limited resources, very much in need of outside assistance and extremely grateful for any received.

Kilimani Primary School

We arrived at Kilimani in 2006 and adopted the school as BASIK’s first project.  The school was a mud hut in a remote area in the middle of several villages.  One man and a female helper were trying to teach 80 local children of primary school age on a site with no water or sanitary facilities and no teaching resources.  In the rainy season, it was impossible to use the hut due to the leaking roof and mud floor.

Sponsor A Child

Through our involvement with Kenyan schools we have become increasingly aware of children that need individual financial support to help them get the education they deserve.  Sponsor A Child is our initiative to raise additional funds that directly help those children that are most in need.

When you sponsor a child through BASIK, you provide them with the necessary uniform, books and equipment that they must have to be allowed to go to school.  On sponsoring a child you will receive a photograph and certificate.
